Building Sustainable Borders (B.S.B.) Summer College Bound Program is an initiative that provides high school students from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Caribbean to take ESL Pre-College courses and travel abroad opportunities in the United States (U.S.). The students participate in our summer academic programs during the summer month from July through and August.
B.S.B is an educational initiative collaborating with colleges and universities throughout the Northeast, New York and New Jersey Metro Metropolitan area. We are offering high school students from Hispaniola a life altering experience of participating in a two-week ESL Pre-College Program at a U.S. university. This is a phenomenal opportunity for students living in underserved communities from Hispaniola. Students participating in the ESL Pre-College Program are entering their sophomore or junior year of high school and can take advantage of enrolling in college-level courses and experience life as a college student. Students participate in a two-week residential experience at one of our collaborating colleges or university in the Tri-State area. Students live in the dorms on campus and attend classes during the week. The courses are instructed by veteran teachers and university professors.
Additionally, our ESL Pre-College program provides students with an opportunity to tour area colleges throughout the Tri-State, and offers educational workshops designed for teaching our international students how to access the higher education resources available to them. This opportunity to travel and study abroad will help the students discover and realize that they have real options in their lives as they strive to attend a U.S. college.
The program collaborates with corporate partners, local school districts, non-profit organizations, and church organizations. Our corporate partners provide speakers, financial support, mentoring, field trips, and expertise in the teaching of science and engineering.
We strive to create a life changing experience for our students, one that will inspire them to reach their greatest potential. After participating in the program, our students realize that their dreams of attending college in the U.S. can happen.
